The long overdue Second Life gaming rant....

Considering im working midshift, that means that today is Friday for me! As for the weekend goes I know Sunday were hopeing to one of England's largest markets they hold. Which here, markets are the place to be, every town has one on a particular day of the week. Then on Saturday we have a wedding, and as for the rest of the week not much planned right now. We've been looking for a good 3 day weekend to hit up London or something, were just really not feeling the busy city and how confusing the first time being there will be, so we've been in no rush.

I know before I left the states I was all ready to get started on a new series for NSS which was an action/comedy. Hell we even started filming and had the main character all ready in scenes (not to add 20gigs of footage on the hard drive), and that was until I got orders to the UK. Well one of my many dreams have come true which is traveling overseas, and because of it the series I've been wanting to start for so long is now on hold. I was having a conversation with a buddy at work (also an avid gamer) talking about how we go in and out of different games and really cant stick with just one forever until it dies like most people seem they have to (strictly MMO's). I think that's what Second Life has become to me, its been over 2 years now of me playing it (almost 3), which is one of the longest running games i've played (of course having on and off moments). Now its come to the point knowing everything about it and you have to find your own drive that makes you want to keep playing. Which has always been a problem for people in SL because there is no leveling or goals but your personal ones. Its a game that-- well as Jen says "A glorified chat room" which now you have players joining with names like "Angel34" or "Max power3821" when before everyone had a normal or fun name.. likeee "Bebop Vox" =D. c'mon!! This isn't the lesbian chat room on AOL or something guys!!! people from all around the world are joining just to meet others and "cyber" -- and if you don't know what that is ill even post a Wiki link for ya "Cyber" lol.

Its just sad to see where this game has gone at this point, when making this game they had no idea about the human element involved. Yea sure you still have creative people making neato shit, but now we have mindless company's like DELL or AOL who pay players like me and Jen to build them a "sim", which no one in game will ever go to because nothing is ever going on in the sim. Unless your giving away free money, holding a concert in which someone is playing live, or have a casino - will people then show up.

What can I say, the game was fun, and at times still is. But its so behind the times and with such a great idea gone to waste. Myself I'm debating if its even worth the trouble anymore, I should just go buy a PS3, get "home" and make a well made video in there. Cause yes in the end its always going to be easier to produce a video in a game (hell that's why I started) but if the game has graphic restrictions and flaws you really cant fix, than will you be happy with the product in the end even though it doesn't look as it did in your head?

Here I was just trying to focus on the gaming fact it self, if you've played the game you all ready know how the community is, how political it can be just like any game, and how so many people will hide behind their avatar. Its not like I need to go into the definition of each and every social belief that's in SL like sexiest Goreans or people who swear by the book they're a real life furry and own a furry costume in. Not to add just about every freak or drama starter you can find is in this game. Linden Labs opened up a real life in a video game, its not like you didn't know what was going to happen, just look out your window. A world with out laws where you can copy write, make thousands and not report it on your taxes (cause most are from other country's and no way to know your SSN or IP cause you can change it every 2 seconds).

Easy as that =) you cant expect to play a game until it doesn't exist anymore, cause other games and projects coming out which learned from others mistakes and will be 100 times better. Mark my words now, ill even BOLD it so i can find it years or months later. I will put money on that Second Life gets bought out or someone makes a game just like it, and learning from everything they messed up on. So yes when that comes out, your damn right ill be right there.
